QUICK ANSWER: To help you help others while creating wealth for yourself.
FOR MONEY MAKING CONNECTIONS
There are so many scams out there that it can feel kinda sketchy to sign up for most affiliate marketing networks. People, like me, who want to make money while staying at home need a helpful trust-earning base to start us off on the right foot.
Although I’ve been on the Internet for around eighteen years, of which the last ten I specifically looked into working online, I have never come across anything like Wealthy Affiliate that made me feel like I wasn’t taking a risk.
I now know that making money online is something anyone can get into, with the right guidance, and the Wealthy Affiliate website is a community platform full of tools just for that. It has a free starter membership for people who want to learn and make money with no upfront costs. There is no credit card required to sign up.
The owners, Kyle & Carson, actually message you and reply to your comments personally. With every new member who signs up, they make the effort to welcome them and will even answer any newbie question regardless of how many times it has been asked. And this obviously influences the community in a good way as other members show a pay-it-forward style of sharing with each other.
The training is unmatched with anything out there. If you’ve read a bit about who I am, you’ll know that I’ve gone to several schools in my life. I’ve done online classes and I’ve even completed two fitness training challenges on Facebook (one of which I’ve won).
Although I learned from these experiences, none were as organized as Wealthy Affiliate. The platform has two main training modules that are broken up into “smart” lessons so that your progress is bookmarked.
It is so easy to start right where you left off at the click of a button. Tasks are broken up into digestible pieces and it is just so satisfying to check off action boxes that in turn fill up completion bars.
For those who want more in-depth support, there is a premium membership available — but I must say that I never felt pressured to upgrade. The price has not changed in twelve years and I wish that I would have joined ten years ago so that I could have grown with the network in terms of expertise.
I guess it was my ignorance and concern that held me back. There were advertisements then but never had I come across a review written by someone who was actually a member. Or at least I never read anything written well enough by a member to actually recall doing so.
FOR EVERYDAY PEOPLE
It wasn’t until this year, 2017, that I saw a post from a stay at home dad (whose name is Rob) — and it was fortunate for me that I felt like I could relate to him (and that he was an actual member!).
I wish I could recall the original search terms, but all I remember is opening up a bunch of tabs about getting paid to write articles and somewhere in my frustration I thought about my daughter’s Papá and how it would be if he were a stay at home father.
A post came up called “Stay at home Dads Working From Home” and I read Rob’s story about job loss, stress, loneliness, and taking classes.
He mentioned his fear of getting involved in the PTA (Parent Teacher Association) but, despite his fears, he found that his skills grew considerably once he joined.
Although Rob’s life was looking up, his efforts turned to working and to his struggle in failing at so many multi-level marketing schemes.
He felt that it was just too much.
Rob explained that he ended up quitting his dream of making money online. That is, until he came across Wealthy Affiliate. His bad experience from get-rich-quick scams made him conclude that most offers were meant to empty people’s bank accounts.
The past was ugly compared to the relative ease with which Rob could click a button for free and thereby join a learning community with a wealth of resources at his fingertips. Rob then concluded his post in a hopeful, friendly, and realistic tone that didn’t feel like a sales pitch.
FOR PEOPLE LIKE ME
I must confess, I clicked the Wealthy Affiliate banner as soon as I saw the words “no credit card required” and I’m glad I did. I have my own story, my own struggle, as a stay at home mama.
When my child was still in my arms for most hours of the day, I signed up for what was known at the time as oDesk. I competed against outsourcing workers, in countries like India and the Philippines, just so I could write one cent per word articles. The highest I got was about four dollars an hour to assist a professor with a newsletter, along with some marketing and research.
In total, I earned about three hundred dollars over several months of restless nights. It was more like a painful hobby but I just kept telling myself it would get better. I prayed that it would as my baby grew bigger, but progress as a freelancer was too slow.
Around the same time and after, I bought domain names with the intent of becoming a professional freelancer.
When that didn’t seem possible, I thought of marketing domain names. Without any professional guidance, I got too caught up in the aesthetics and the desire to profit that my lack of patience and commitment made me quit.
I felt unsupported. There were more “important things” to do for my offline life. I was off-grid for a while, and it felt good. Life was this way for me until about two years ago. Having dabbled in graphic design before, I began reusing open source software again to create fliers.
I again joined Upwork (formerly known as oDesk) and competed for article writing. The highest I received was eight dollars for six hundred words per article. The effort of competing and writing for others is exhausting, however, when you realize that the pay is minimal compared to the benefits of researching and writing for yourself.
Enough well written posts on a SEO website can earn a greater passive income than any possible perks from writing articles for other people. Many clients will pay pennies to claim your work, or someone else’s mediocre work, as their own. Many will use such content to drive traffic to their sites so that they can earn commissions.
FOR CURRENT & FUTURE EXPERTS LIKE US
I don’t want people claiming expertise with poorly paid content that I researched and can claim for myself. I don’t want that for me or for you. But we can make quality content that answers people’s questions and creates authentic connections while also making good money online.
Good training, supportive members, and your own website can become a passive source of income. I have that now and that stay at home dad Rob is connected to me as a Wealthy Affiliate friend. He helps me, as do others, with any questions that I post on the site. It would be best described as a horizontal mentoring and I hope to do the same for new members too.
In other words, Wealthy Affiliate is a proven method for turning any interest into an expertise and any niche into a business. It’s affiliates helping affiliates.
